Our 4-Day AlUla Itinerary (Real & Recommended!)

This is exactly how we spent our 4 days in AlUla—a blend of adventure, stillness, history, and luxury. Whether you’re visiting for a few days or planning a longer stay, this itinerary offers the perfect balance of culture, relaxation, and soul-stirring landscapes.

Day 1: Arrival + Desert Serenity

  • Land in AlUla and pick up rental car from Budget at the airport
  • Drive to Caravan by Habitas in Ashar Valley
  • Check-in and settle into our Airstream oasis
  • Evening Canyon Soundbath under the stars—deeply grounding and unforgettable
  • Dinner at Tama restaurant (delicious, creative, locally inspired cuisine)

Our journey began with a smooth flight into AlUla International Airport, followed by picking up our rental car from Budget—which we highly recommend. Despite reading mixed reviews online, we booked in advance and were on the road within 45 minutes. Having our own car gave us the freedom to explore AlUla on our own schedule.

The drive into Ashar Valley was jaw-dropping—massive sandstone cliffs and golden desert dunes as far as the eye could see. Arriving at Caravan by Habitas, we checked into our private Airstream-style caravan, nestled right in the valley. It felt remote, peaceful, and incredibly stylish.

That evening, we joined a Canyon Soundbath session under the stars—a deeply grounding experience surrounded by absolute silence, moonlight, and echoing vibrations that made us feel connected to the Earth in a whole new way.

Dinner was at Tama, the on-site restaurant at Habitas AlUla. Every dish was locally inspired and beautifully plated, and the setting felt warm, welcoming, and unforgettable.

This day was all about slowing down, adjusting to the desert pace, and letting the magic of AlUla start to sink in.

Day 2: Ancient Civilizations + Desert Nights

  • Dadan & Jabal Ikmah Tour in the morning
  • Afternoon wandering through Old Town AlUla
  • Head to Elephant Rock for sunset and snacks
  • End the night with an outdoor cinema experience at the caravan site under the stars

After a restful night in the caravan, we kicked off the day with a guided tour of Dadan and Jabal Ikmah. These sites are some of AlUla’s oldest—full of lion tombs carved into cliffs, and thousands of inscriptions etched into stone by ancient civilizations. Our guide gave amazing insight into their meaning and historical context, which made the experience so much more powerful.

In the afternoon, we explored Old Town AlUla, a charming maze of lantern-lit alleyways, artisan stalls, cafés, and traditional architecture. We wandered slowly, stopping for iced drinks and a few unique souvenirs.

For sunset, we headed to Elephant Rock (Jabal AlFil)—an iconic natural formation that’s even more beautiful in person. There are comfy loungers, ambient music, and snacks available, making it the perfect sunset hangout spot.

That night, we returned to the caravan site where an outdoor cinema was set up beneath the stars. Lying back on cushions with a film playing against the desert night? Absolute perfection.

This day was a mix of immersive history and dreamy desert moments. We felt like we were time-travelling, then rewinding into modern desert chic.

Day 3: Culture & Chill

  • Full-day Hegra tour with guide
  • Stop at Shalal Café for lunch and photos
  • Afternoon swim + unwind at Habitas Resort’s pool
  • Explore Old Town by night for crafts and coffee

This day was all about balancing exploration with a little indulgence. We started with a full-day Hegra tour—AlUla’s crown jewel. It’s Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it’s breathtaking. Dozens of massive tombs carved into the rock face stand like monuments to an ancient world. Our guide gave us space to explore but also shared stories that made the ruins feel alive.

Afterwards, we stopped at Shalal Café—a quirky spot tucked beneath a rock cliff with floor cushions and lanterns. It’s a little oasis of calm and creativity, and we couldn’t resist snapping a few photos (and sipping some of the best mint lemonade we’ve ever had).

We spent the rest of the afternoon at Habitas Resort’s pool, which Caravan guests have access to. Surrounded by towering cliffs and stillness, it’s one of the most relaxing pools we’ve ever visited.

In the evening, we revisited Old Town AlUla by night, which has a different energy than during the day—more music, more colour, and more life. It was the perfect slow-paced end to a rich day.

This day delivered a blend of cultural immersion, visual beauty, and well-deserved downtime.

Day 4: Final Touches + Iconic Moments

  • Morning bounce session on the trampolines at Habitas
  • Visit to Maraya Hall for iconic mirrored building pics
  • Late morning walk along the Oasis Heritage Trail
  • Refreshments at Pink Camel Café
  • Sunset at Harrat Viewpoint
  • Final dinner at OKTO, a rooftop Mediterranean restaurant with unreal views

We made the most of our final day by ticking off a few final must-dos and soaking up every last bit of desert magic.

We started the morning with a bounce on the giant trampolines at Habitas (yes, actual trampolines in the desert!)—such a fun and unexpected way to begin the day.

Next, we made our way to Maraya Hall—the world’s largest mirrored building, and truly a sight to behold. It reflects the surrounding canyon in the most surreal way and is perfect for cinematic photos.

From there, we took a peaceful late-morning stroll along the Oasis Heritage Trail, surrounded by date palms, mudbrick homes, and gentle desert breezes. We ended the walk at Pink Camel Café for a refreshing drink and a moment to reflect.

Our final sunset was spent at the Harrat Viewpoint, high above the valley, watching the sky shift from pink to gold to deep blue. It was quiet, emotional, and absolutely beautiful.

We wrapped up our time in AlUla with dinner at OKTO, a chic Mediterranean rooftop restaurant with incredible food and panoramic views—the perfect full-circle ending to our desert adventure.

This final day gave us closure: fun, beauty, and the feeling that we’d truly experienced the best of AlUla.
